Terms, in plain English

The deal

Cookbill helps you turn grocery receipts into a live pantry and tells you what you can cook with what you already own. By creating an account or using the Cookbill website or iPhone app, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. Cookbill is a US-only service.

Food safety comes first

Expiry dates in Cookbill are estimates, not safety guarantees. They’re rough “eat it before” windows based on food category, not on the actual item in your fridge. Always use your own senses and judgment — when in doubt, throw it out. Never eat something questionable because an app said it was fine.

Allergies & dietary needs

Recipe matching, dietary filters, and allergen screening are best-effort conveniences — they can miss things. Receipt scanning can misread products, and recipe data comes from third parties. If you have an allergy or a medical dietary requirement, always check the actual product label and the original recipe. Cookbill is not medical or nutritional advice.

AI does the reading — you do the checking

Receipts are read by AI, which sometimes gets a product name, quantity, or price wrong — that’s why we show you a review screen before anything is saved.

Recipes written by Chef AI, expiry estimates and nutrition numbers are generated by software. They are suggestions, not food-safety guarantees or professional advice, and they can be wrong. Anything important (macros you track, prices you compare, whether something is safe to eat) deserves a human double-check.

Recipes from around the web

Many recipes come from third-party sources (via Spoonacular) and link back to the original site. We don’t control those sites, their content, or their accuracy. Credit for their recipes belongs to them.

Your account & fair use

You can sign in with Google or with an email and password. You’re responsible for what happens on your account, so keep your password private. Don’t abuse the service: no scraping, no reverse-engineering, no using the app to break the law, no flooding the AI features to run up our bills. We can suspend accounts that do.

You can delete your account any time in Settings. Deleting is permanent; the privacy policy lists exactly what it removes.

Households

If you create or join a household, its members can see the pantry items you add and mark them as used. Only share your invite code with people you trust.

Pricing

Cookbill is free while in beta. If paid tiers arrive later, you’ll see clear pricing before you’re ever charged — nothing converts to paid silently.

Your data stays yours

Your receipts, pantry, and cooking history are yours. You give us permission to process them to run the product (that’s the whole point), as described in the privacy policy. You can delete your account and its data from Settings at any time.

The unavoidable legal bit

Cookbill is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we’re not liable for indirect or consequential damages from using the app. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. If we make material changes to these terms, we’ll update the date above and flag it in the app.
